After producing Paatal Lok, for which they are still collecting praises, the Sharma siblings - Anushka and her brother Karnesh, have now produced another project which is a horror film, Bulbbul starring Tripti Dimri, Avinash Tiwary and Rahul Bose. The film released on June 24 on Netflix and it received some rave reviews from the viewers and the critics. As Anushka is riding high on the success of Bulbbul, Anvita Dutt – the director of the film revealed how Anushka Sharma and her brother Karnesh Sharma came on board as producers.
While exclusively speaking to Manish Batavia in SpotboyE's Just Binge Session, Anvita Dutt recalled the time when she told the idea to Karnesh who was impressed by the subject. He later told the same to his sister and Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma who then agreed to produce the film. Anvita had worked with Anushka in 2011 film Patiala House that also starred Akshay Kumar and then in the 2017 film Phillauri also starring Diljit Dosanjh. When asked about the first time she shared the idea to Karnesh and Anushka. To which she chose to give a little back story and said, “This is a very sweet story. I have known Karnesh since he was in the merchant navy when he had nothing to do with the film industry. When I met him through Anushka after Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi came out, we used to hang out and we had common friends and we used to have lovely conversations about everything.”
Dutt then revealed that 10 years ago, at least, one of their friends suggested Bulbbul – which was written by Anvita – to Karnesh and recalling the time, she said, “So he read it as a friend and the next day he met me for a coffee and he said that if I ever become a producer I'll produce this film and then he became a producer, then he gave it Anushka to read and when she read it, she said that you're absolutely right, we are going to produce this film and that's how it happened.”
