Imagine creating a horror story with grass as the demon? Sounds pretty crazy, right? That’s the near impossible feat Stephen King pulled with his novel, In The Tall Grass which is the base for Netflix’s latest horror film. Set in a supernatural grassland, much like most horror stories based in geographical areas, all those who enter can never leave.

The plot of the film is quite simple and almost immediately sets you up for doom. Siblings Sal and Becky venture into the dreaded grasslands after hearing the heart-breaking cries of a young boy who seems to be lost there. In search of him, they enter, and soon enough, they lose the boy and each other. Ominous dangers await them as dusk falls and this is truly nerve-chilling for the viewer – let alone for Sal and Becky.

In the Tall Grass makes for a good horror watch and this is because the film’s craft manages to spook you to no end. The greatest tools available to any film maker – cinematography and edit are used well here to create an atmosphere that seems terrifying – from nothing more than just grass. Hats off to the technicians!

Another great thing In The Tall Grass manages to do is spook you with the sound design. All us horror fans know that good sound design is what makes or breaks a horror outing – and In The Tall Grass aces it in that department. Even seasoned horror viewers will feel a chill run down their spine with each rustle of the leaves, with each time the grass seems to come down on you.

Watch In The Tall Grass for a good horror fix. It is now streaming on Netflix.
