Being one of the most sought-after filmmakers in Bollywood, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has made a name for himself because of his storytelling technique, building larger-than-life, opulent sets and amazing music as well as background scores. Having basked in the success of Gangubai Kathiawadi, the filmmaker released the first look of his much-awaited Netflix series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. For the unversed, set to stream on Netflix, the series marks his OTT debut.

Set in the pre-independence era of India, the show is all set to bring forward a story that portrays the reality of Heeramande, a dazzling district. The show will focus on the stories of courtesans and their patrons during the 1940s. As soon as the first look of the show was dropped on the internet, it took to the nation storm. Netizens have been buzzing with excitement as they await for the makers to announce the release date of the show. Known for always focusing on bringing his audience strong female characters, Bhandali had once told Netflix’s Co-CEO Ted Sarandos, “Be it Manisha's character in Khamoshi, who looks after her differently-abled parents, Nandini in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, who has the courage to pursue her love and then make a choice, the character of Mastani in Bajirao Mastani or that of Rani in Black, for me the impact of a story increases manifold with a strong female character.”
