Ayushmann Khurrana’s first outing of 2020 was Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, a romantic-comedy which had hit the internet on February 21, 2020. The film which narrated an unconventional love story between Ayushmann and Jitendra Kumar just subtly educated people about homosexuality keeping it light and not crossing the limits. Now the film is available on the OTT platform, Amazon Prime Video, thus allowing you to binge watch it during this lockdown from April 18, 2020. Movie’s overall collection as per its Wikipedia page is Rs. 86 crore.
As per reports in Telly Chakkar, Ayushmann speaking about his movie, touched upon topics such as society decriminalizing of the same gender relationship, and also how slowly and steadily its being accepted in the society. He said, “This movie is very close to my heart. It has been a while since same-sex love was decriminalized; however, I believe we have a long way to go before the society accepts it.”
Adding further he also mentioned about how this movie is gradually toning down the phobia regarding the same sex relationship. “Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is a lighter take on the reality of homophobia that exists in India and also an attempt to bring such unconventional stories to the fore. Art and cinema, in my opinion, can do a lot to change mindsets,” he added.
