Anushka Sharma's Clean Slate Films' web series Paatal Lok trailer was launched online, this morning. There has been a lot of talk that this show is based on Tarun Tejpal's book, The Story Of My Assassins.

When contacted, Amazon Prime Video's spokesperson said, "Paatal Lok is loosely inspired by an idea from the book. The show's creator and writer Sudip Sharma took inspiration from it and along with his team of talented writers, has crafted a unique crime thriller that is as nuanced as it is immersive.

Tarun Tejpal was not involved in any manner in any phase of the development and production of the show.

Paatal Lok is the story of an honest cop who unravels a deep nexus of crime as he solves the biggest case of his life. The characters in the show are fictional and not based on any real life personalities or incidents."

“It has been our consistent endeavour to disrupt Indian entertainment space with breakthrough content.” Karnesh Sharma, Anushka’s brother and producing partner, had said in an earlier statement, “This year, as Clean Slate Filmz completes 5 years, we are happy to announce our upcoming Amazon Original Series Paatal Lok, in association with Amazon Prime Video. The show has been a labour of love, and I hope audiences across the globe experience the same joy we did creating it!”

Paatal Lok stars Jaideep Ahlawat, Neeraj Kabi, Gul Panag and Abhishek Banerjee among others. Directed by Avinash Arun and Prosit Roy, the nine-part series will begin streaming from May 15, 2020.
