Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired the US rights to Pan Nalin’s Last Film Show, an India-set tale. The film follows Samay, a 9-year-old boy living with his family in a remote village in India. The narrative traces how this boy gets instantly mesmerised by films, and sets off to become a filmmaker at all costs against his father's wishes.

The film, which world premiered at Tribeca last month, is represented in international markets by Orange Studio. The movie received a warm critical welcome at Tribeca.

As per reports, Indian producers will push for Last Film Show to be India’s candidate in the international film race at the Oscars.

"Each time I make a movie, I face the same problems. I am a relentless storyteller, and I am an outsider, meaning I fit nowhere, neither in Bollywood nor in Hollywood – and I hate terms like 'art-house' cinema or 'indie' movies. I just want films to be films," Pan Nalin told moneycontrol.com in May, 2021.

He added, "The Last Film Show is very personal and autobiographical. Samay and his gang’s adventure in the movie is what I did as a kid with my gang of friends. The Last Film Show is also filmed on many real locations close to my native place in Gir and in Kathiawad where I grew up. We even resurrected the abandoned cinema hall where I had seen my very first movie, and that too became one of the main locations in the movie."

Daniel Marquet, Orange Studio’s head of international sales, said the film has lured distributors around the world.

"Last Film Show’ is a love letter to the magic of cinema in its more intimate way and Samuel Goldwyn Films is the perfect home for this title has it has been for a long list of innovative and acclaimed feature films in the past years," Marquet told Variety.com.

Pan Nalin's previous work includes Samsara (2011), the Himalayan epic Valley of Flowers (2012), and the comedy-drama Angry Indian Goddesses (2015). He has also directed documentaries for the BBC and Discovery.
