Ruby Rose who played the titular role of Batwoman – an American series, has now left the DC universe for real. Yes, you read that right. After airing the first season, the actress bids farewell to the character as well as the crew of the series. The shocking announcement came just days after the show wrapped its first season. in fact, it was renewed for season two in January this year, however, for the season two, we would definitely not see Ruby Rose playing Batwoman and kicking goon’s ass. However, no reason has officially been cited but it is said that the demands of working on a US cable network drama took a toll on Rose.
However, according to a report mentioned on Variety, Rose was unhappy with the long hours of the shoot that required as the series lead and this led to friction on the set and hence the production house and Rose decided to part ways. There were reports suggested that due to her surgery that she underwent for two herniated discs, might also be the reason for her exit but a source Variety that Rose’s decision “had nothing to do with her health or injury.”
Meanwhile, Rose said in a mailed statement as reported by Gadget 360. "I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season. This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles," Rose said. She expressed her gratitude to producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Caroline Dries for "this incredible opportunity" and welcomed her into “the DC universe they have so beautifully created.”
The CW, Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions thanked the Australian actor for "her contributions to the success of our first season and wish her all the best." "The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman's second season and long-term future, and we -- along with the show's talented creative team -- look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months," the companies said in a joint statement, as quoted by the same portal.
After this announcement, we wonder who will now slip into the shoes of Batwoman for the second season.
