Hollywood star Robert Downey Jr will be soon entertaining his fans by featuring in a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Sympathizer’s screen adaptation. Based on Viet Thanh Nguyen's novel it will be backed by entertainment firm A24 for HBO. As per reports in Variety, Park Chan-wook will be donning the director’s hat for the series, along with Don McKellar. This will mark Robert Downey Jr’s first outing after playing Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame in 2019. The movie is said to be shot in Los Angeles and Vietnam.
The novel narrates a story "cross-culture satire about the struggles of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his eventual exile in the United States." While the makers are in midst of casting for the series, it is reported it will have Vietnamese stars largely. Along with Park and Don, Robert Downey Jr will be also stepping into the shoes of executive producer for this project.
Speaking the screen adaptation of this award-winning novel, he said, “Adapting Mr. Nguyen's important and masterful work requires a visionary team. With Director Park at the helm, I expect this to be a creative producing adventure for Susan, me and Team Downey, and a stimulating process for myself in playing these complex supporting roles.”
