Black man George Floyd's death in the US has sparked a protest against colourism. Many have come forward to support Black Lives Matter protest. With this, many are even slamming the makers and endorsers of fairness creams that promote the notion that being fair is being beautiful. Colourism is very prevalent in India and hence, stars like Padma Lakshmi and Frieda Pinto have raised their concern over the same. It was Top Chef actress who took to Instagram to talk about colorism in India and Frieda Pinto joined in.

On Instagram, Padma Lakshmi expressed how she used to feel insecure about her skin tone thanks to fairness creams. She wrote, "For those who don’t know, “Fair & Lovely” is a skin whitening cream marketed to POC. Colorism is a persistent social force in India, and many South Asian countries. I know it made me feel insecure growing up. We need to dismantle this harmful relic of colonialism through representation for all skin-tones. The Slumdog Millionaire actress Frieda Pinto commented on this post and expressed the same feeling. She mentioned that she used to feel insecure in her early 20s and even while promoting her film Slumdog Millionaire.
