The legendary Carl Reiner, a versatile actor, writer and filmmaker who shaped up the concept of comedy decades ago, has breathed his last. His was 98 years old. Carl rose to fame as a 'second banana' to Sid Cesar and was the creator of The Dick Van Dyke Show and the straight man to Mel Brooks' 2000 Year Old Man. Carl's assistant Judy Nagy revealed that the veteran died of natural causes on Monday night at his Beverly Hills' residence in California. He starred in films like The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming and It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World among others.

Carl's recent works included the popular Ocean's Eleven movies starring George Clooney and a couple of documentaries like Broadway: Beyond the Golden Age and If You’re Not in the Obit, Eat Breakfast. Carl's filmography as a director included Oh, God!, All of Me and the 1970 comedy Where’s Poppa? among several others. As a writer, Carl penned a streak of popular books like Enter Laughing and My Anecdotal Life, a memoir. In the year 2013, Carl launched a book titled I Remember Me, wherein he had recalled his childhood and creative journey.

American filmmaker, writer and actor Alan Alda took to his social media and paid a heartwarming tribute to Carl by sharing a picture with him and writing, "My friend Carl Reiner died last night. His talent will live on for a long time, but the loss of his kindness and decency leaves a hole in our hearts. We love you, Carl."
