Ray then stated that she is fed up with female writers and alt singers who claim that she is glamorising abuse. She then went on to add that in reality, she is just a glamorous person singing about the realities of what we are all seeing now, referring to the emotionally abusive relationships all over the world.
The Summertime Sadness singer continued, “With all of the topics women are finally allowed to explore I just want to say over the last 10 years I think it's pathetic that my minor lyrical exploration detailing my sometimes submissive or passive roles in my relationships has often made people say I've set women back hundreds of years.” She then added that she is not a feminist, but mentioned that there has to be a place in feminism for women who look and act like her. Lana described that the kind of woman she is talking about in her open letter and went on to share that she has been honest and optimistic about the challenging relationships she has had.
