Kevin Spacey has been making headlines for controversial reasons. The American Beauty actor has been ordered to pay nearly $31m to 'House of Cards' production company following a breach of contract. For the uninitiated, MRC, the production company which is behind the popular Netflix show, House of Cards, faced losses after his exit from the show when sexual harassment allegations were made against him.
According to the legal documents made public on Monday, MRC, the production company has sought compensation for lost revenue. According to the BBC, Kevin was earlier accused of a toxic work environment on the sets of the show. He was called out for passing 'crude comments' and 'touching young staffers' without consent. The production company had said that they had no idea about Spacey's alleged on-set behaviour. The American Beauty actor faced the wrath of netizens for his actions, however, he has denied the allegations against him.
The secret ruling was made last year but came into public on Monday after the lawyers for MRC studio filed a court petition confirming the award. The studio had fired the actor and it further led to loss of millions of dollars as they had already started working on the next season. According to the report, in the document, MRC detailed that after the allegations came to light it launched an investigation which found that the actor had breached provisions of both the Acting and Executive Producing Agreements that set standards for his workplace conduct, including by breaching MRC's Harassment Policy.
It has now been confirmed that the ruling was made in the favour of MRC. Kevin and his production companies, Trigger Street Productions and M Profit Productions have been asked to pay $31m.
