Johnny Depp’s former girlfriend Kate Moss is doing the rounds on the internet again after her name was dragged in the $100 million defamation case by Amber Heard. Owing to her being mentioned in the courtroom, the supermodel will be called to the stand as a witness.

No sooner than Heard mentioned of Moss, celebrations sparked the Depp’s side and from the looks of it, the 58-year-old and his legal team were waiting exactly for this moment. Heard’s mention of Moss gave Depp’s lawyer the chance to summon the British model as a witness in Johnny Depp’s defence.

But, what does this mean for Johnny Depp and his lawsuit against Amber Heard?

Heard recounted the time she hit Depp in the face during a 2015 fight near a staircase saying she was worried Depp would harm her sister Whitney, who was present for the incident, according to Insider.

Heard told the courtroom that Depp swung at her sister who was standing at the top of a staircase, which prompted her to hit him.

According to Amber, Johnny was engaged in an argument with Amber's sister — Whitney Henriquez — and their confrontation turned volatile.

"[Whitney's] back was to the staircase, and Johnny swings at her," she recalled. "...I don't hesitate, I don't wait — I just, in my head, instantly think of Kate Moss and stairs."

She continued: "And I swung at him. In all of my relationships to date with Johnny, I hadn't landed a blow. And I, for the first time, hit him, like actually hit him. Square in the face. He didn't push my sister down the stairs."

Incidentally, Kate was not previously expected to testify as, per the New York Post, "the rumoured staircase incident wasn’t related to a specific accusation in the Virginia case."

However, Heard’s mention of the alleged staircase incident has changed everything for Depp. According to reports, Kate — who dated Johnny from 1994 to 1997 — will be called to the stand on Wednesday, May 25.

Moss could be a key focus when her testimony would be recorded in the courtroom and several experts suggest that her statements work in favour of Johnny Depp.

Was the alleged staircase incident true?

Experts reportedly believe that Amber's slip of the tongue may have cost her the case. By mentioning Moss, Heard has opened the doors with her initial testimony about the staircase allegations.

Several reports shared that Kate "has always been supportive" of Johnny, and a law expert said that it could be bad news for Amber. The legal expert concluded, "Now, Depp’s team is going to try to drive a steamroller through it by having Moss contradict Heard," as reported by Distractify.

"That, in itself, would help their cause by showing Depp is not the violent person Heard claims," the legal expert further explained. "If you are suing someone for defamation, it’s a good day when you can show that the defendant has been spreading untrue, defamatory statements about you."

Another entertainment lawyer Mitra Ahouraian stated: "[Moss] is still allegedly friends with Johnny, and her testimony wasn't allowed to come in before because it wasn't as relevant."

She added: “That’s one mistake that [Amber Heard] made was bringing up Kate Moss, which potentially opened the door to [Depp’s team] bringing [Moss] on as an impeachment witness – and Moss saying, 'This never happened'"
