The Coronavirus pandemic has stalled the release of many upcoming films. While several films and its makers have opted for a direct-to-digital release, several other production companies and producers are also planning to release in theatres, considering the current scenario. A few days back, Tenet director Christopher Nolan criticised Warner Bros and slammed their online streaming platform, HBO Max. Now, the production company is reportedly getting sued by Legendary Pictures for their decision of releasing the film Godzilla Vs Kong on HBO Max.
According to a report in We Got This Covered, Legendary Pictures are not pleased that Warner Bros did not consult them before planning to release the film Godzilla Vs Kong on the OTT platform. The report stated that Legendary Pictures now plan to take legal action against the production company.
For the unversed, Warner Bros recently left everyone almost in shock when they announced they their 2021 films will be released on HBO Max simultaneously. Legendary Pictures is the owner of one of the most-anticipated films of 2021. The film was sold to Warner Bros when Netflix had pitched a 250 million dollar deal said the report. As per the report, Warner Bros are the distributors of the film and own its control. But, Legendary Pictures on the other hand owns 75 per cent of the film with other partners, which eventually makes their argument very strong.
Meanwhile, Tenet director Christopher Nolan called HBO Max the ‘worst streaming service’. He also slammed the decision of the production company of simultaneous OTT and theatre release. The Tenet director said that Warner Bros had an incredible machine for getting a filmmaker’s work out everywhere, both in theatres and at home, but he stated that they are dismantling.
