The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards were one of the most highly anticipated award shows this year and while it was first slated to be held at Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, Emmys 2020 was held virtually this year. It was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel this year, and Andrij Parekh won the Primetime Emmy Award for directing the episode ‘Hunting’ in HBO’s show ‘Succession’. It was a proud moment for India as this director bagged the Best Director award for the show.

Andrij Parekh is a director-cinematographer. He was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and is of Indian (Gujarati) and Ukrainian descent. He has directed three episodes of HBO’s Succession. Apart from that, he has also worked on some famous shows including 13 Reasons Why, Half Belson, Sugar, Blue Valentine, The Zookeeper’s Wife, Madame Bovary, Show Me a Hero.  Not just TB shows, he has also worked on short films such as Roosters, Zimove Vesilya.

Andrij Parekh completed his education from Carleton College and studied cinematography at the NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and FAMU Film School in Prague. During his time at NYU, he was nominated for the 1998 Eastman Excellence in Cinematography Award.


Earlier, while speaking to IANS, Andrij had mentioned how his Gujarati roots make him good at business. Andrij Parikh's win was the second Emmys for Succession team. Jesse Armstrong also bagged the Emmys for writing the ‘This Is Not for Tears’ episode of Succession.
