HBO Max’s FRIENDS: The Reunion has scored four Emmy 2021 nominations, including one for outstanding variety special. The category implies Courteney Cox, one of the FRIENDS, is finally getting her due as she joins her five fellow co-stars with recognition for the former NBC comedy. Cox was the only one of the six stars who never scored an Emmy nomination during the hit show’s original 10-season run from 1994-2004.

The six stars who played the six central friends on the cult classic show -- Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc and Lisa Kudrow, who exec produced the streamer’s reunion special alongside director Ben Winston, Friends creators Kevin Bright, Kauffman and Crane have all been nominated for arranging the reunion episode.

The special has also been nominated in the variety special directing, variety special production design and variety special lighting design/direction categories.

To celebrate this feat, Jennifer Aniston congratulated her friends on her Instagram stories. She posted a picture from the reunion special show, and wrote: "Congrats to my @friends family for four emmy nominations. This was such a special reunion for us and we couldn't be happier to share it all with you."

The legendary series nabbed 62 total Emmy nominations during its decade-long original run on NBC. Five of these were for Aniston (she won in 2002), Kudrow scored a whopping six noms (won in 1998), LeBlanc three times, Perry was nominated in a lead comedy actor nomination in 2002; and Schwimmer scored a supporting comedy actor nom in 1995.

FRIENDS: The Reunion streamed on HBO Max in May this year - after repeatedly getting delayed for multiple reasons. The special show consisted a sit down interview of the six stars with James Corden, the host, along with bits of script readings, a fashion show, and more. It marked the first time the entire cast reunited for any sort of show-related purposes.

The nominations for this year’s Emmy Awards were announced Tuesday in an event hosted by father-daughter Emmy winners Ron Cephas Jones (This Is Us) and Jasmine Cephas Jones (Blindspotting). Netflix's The Crown and Disney+'s The Mandalorian lead with 24 nominations each.
