41-year-old legendary NBA star Kobe Bryant, known to be one of the greatest basketball players of all time, died in a fatal helicopter crash on January 26, 2020, in Calabasas, California. His 13-year-old daughter Gianna was also killed in the crash. A public memorial was held on February 24, to honor the lives of Kobe and Gianna, and seven others who died in the crash, and Beyonce took the stage and sang an emotional medley of her songs. However, photographers were reportedly banned from clicking pictures of Beyonce, and turns out this was actually done on Beyonce’s request.
According to HollywoodLife, the request to not take any pictures of her came directly from Beyonce and she had a reason for the same. A source close to the superstar told HollywoodLife that it was because she didn’t want the attention to be taken away from Kobe’s wife Vanessa Bryant and their family. The source said, “Beyonce asked that no pictures of her were taken at Kobe’s memorial. She didn’t want to take the attention away from Vanessa and the family. She only performed because she loved Kobe and wanted to do something special for Vanessa.”
The event was live-streamed, and Beyonce sang a medley of her songs XO and Halo.
Before she crooned XO, Beyonce said that she was there because she loved Kobe Bryant and that XO was one of his favorite songs. After her performance, Beyonce sat with Kobe’s wife Vanessa Bryant and was seen comforting her friend throughout.
