Ariana Grande Sued By A Hip-Hop Artist For ‘7 Rings’; Gets In Legal Trouble Right Before Grammy Awards 2020

Hollywood singer Ariana Grande has been winning hearts worldwide with her peppy songs. The year 2019 has been a big year for Grande with many songs being world-famous. As Ariana Grande released hit song ‘7 Rings’ that was loved by many, just before the Grammy Awards 2020, the singer got sued for copying the lyrics of a song. Grande has got hit with a copyright suit by Josh Stone who wrote and recorded the song ‘You Need I Got It’ and claims that Ariana’s producer has copied his lyrics in her song 7 Rings.

On Thursday, Ariana Grande got sued by hip-hop singer Josh Stone for plagiarism. According to Josh Stone, he took his written and the recorded song ‘You Need I Got It’ in 2017 to Ariana Grande’s producer Tommy Brown and many other executives from the industry. As per a report in People.com, the suit filed by Stone alleges Brown of stealing ‘key elements’ from his song for Ariana Grande’s song ‘7 Rings’ that has been receiving quite a many awards. The reports state that the suit has been filed in the New York federal court by attorney Tamir Young and claims that forensics musicologists have put the choruses of each song under the scanner and analyzed it carefully finding the rhythm and notes to be similar. The lines of 7 Rings that read, ‘You Need It, I Got It. You Want It, I Got It’, are much similar to Stone’s song chorus that reads, ‘I Want It, I Got It. I Want It, I Got It.’ In the meantime, the suit also alleges that, “Literally, every single one of the 39 respective notes of ‘7 Rings’ is identical with the 39 notes of ‘I Got It’ from a metrical placement perspective.”


Meanwhile, the suit filed against 7 Rings also names Universal Music Corp. along with many other defendants apart from Ariana Grande. In the upcoming Grammy Awards 2020, Ariana is nominated for five Grammy Awards, from which 2 include for song 7 Rings. Grande will also be performing at the Grammy Awards this year.
