The legal battle between the exes is getting ugly by each passing day. Johnny Depp filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against ex-wife Amber Heard and the latest update on the case states that the actress has asked the actor to produce documents of the Substance Abuse Case he faced in the past. However, the lawyer of Pirates of Caribbean star has objected to this demand. As per reports, Amber who made a surprise appearance in Virginia court asked for the court’s permission to review the documents related to arrest, drug and domestic violence case Johnny faced in the past.
As per a report in Deadline, Amber Heard’s lawyer in a statement said, “Mr Depp cannot seek to litigate the truth of Ms Heard's allegations about his violent and abusive behaviour while intoxicated, insist on proceeding without a protective order, and then blithely refuse to produce evidence that confirms the truth of those allegations on grounds of relevance and 'privacy’.
Another statement of the lawyer read, “In Mr Depp's self-serving view, his privacy justifies denying discovery essential to Ms Heard's defence, but somehow does not justify the entry of standard protective order.”
The Deadline report then quoted Depp's lawyer saying, "Now her new #Timesup lawyers try to thread a difficult needle — desperately fight to get the case dismissed out of court for the 3rd time, sweep the unambiguous testimonial evidence of her crimes under seal to hide it from the public and embolden her (curiously silent) hoax-enablers, and smear Johnny Depp with additional false innuendo. All while arguing the abuse defamation she inflicted on Johnny Depp was somehow not about Johnny Depp."
It was in March that Amber wrote an article for a leading publication calling herself a victim of domestic violence. Even though she did not take the name, Depp took it onto himself and filed a defamation case again her. Since then the battle is on with both trying to prove their points. Amber, in fact, is digging the past.
