Brad Pitt, ever since his split from Angelina Jolie, had been linked with quite a few actresses, including Arrested Development star Alia Shawkat. Rumours about Alia and Brad Pitt dating began last year, in 2019, after the two were first clicked together and their pictures surfaced on the Internet. After that, the two were spotted together on several occasions, and people started speculating about their relationship. Now, finally, Alia Shawkat has reacted to these rumours and said that they are just friends.
In an interview with Vulture, Alia rubbished the rumours and speculations of them dating and claimed that the media attention had become uncontrollable. She maintained that their relationship is purely platonic. “We’re not dating. We’re just friends,” said Alia. She revealed that she first met Brad Pitt through a friend Spike Jonze, whom she has known since she was nine years old. “We just became friends, and Brad introduced me to his group of friends, and it grew from there,” said Alia.
She further said that while she has gotten press before, but it was never so ‘uncontrollable.’ “All my friends were like 'What's going on?' and sending me photos. I just felt overwhelmed. It's that feeling of being naked in school, like, 'Oh my God, everyone's looking at me,’” she said.
Further opening up about how certain outlets reported these rumours, Alia Shawkat said, “To them it's like, 'We don't get it! This girl is weird! She's so different! Why are they hanging out? You get too close to the prom king, and all of a sudden, everyone's like, 'Well, who is this b*tch?'"
Last year, Alia Shawkat and Brad Pitt were snapped walking out of a Los Angeles playhouse, then at Mike Birbiglia's comedy show, a Thundercat concert, at an art gallery, among others. While the pictures didn’t seem to suggest they were anything more than friends, their frequent outings led people to speculate.
