Ayesha Nair takes a cursory look at how B-town turned up at a pre-awards bash, last week
You wore WHAT!?
It seems that everything I write these days has the words awards season it in. And now an awards show had a pre-awards party and a red carpet before the actual party.
This is how Bollywood dressed up for the do.
It will be easy to hate on this Elena Perseil dress that Priyanka Chopra wore. But if drama is what she was going for then drama is what the dress gave her. The hood looked more fashion-forward than tacky.
And when it moved it was a sheer beauty.
But it looked equally great minus the hood. Full marks to Priyanka for owning this look.
But I have no issues hating on Shahid Kapoor’s look. Theres something so wannabe about a guy in figure-hugging clothes. And Shahid is far from wannabe. Plus, who wears pants without a belt? But I made a very keen observation that might explain this. The pant has no loops. So how can anyone wear a belt with it to begin with? Why do they even make pants like these?
Alia Bhatt is really showing a different side of herself on the red carpet. Shes done away with cutesy fashion statements and is going big girl chic. This Temperley London look with the sleek hair and bold lips is sexy boardroom chic but so perfect for the red carpet too. Cant wait to see what she pulls out next.
You cant see me but Im totally standing up and applauding Vaani Kapoors bold move of going accessory-free. This Hugo Boss strapless number fits her like a glove and the Judith Leiber clutch with the leopard pattern clashes with the print on the dress but in a good way. A very good way.
Patralekha kept it simple in this Roberto Cavalli gown. But she could have picked a better accessory than her gold phone to go with her look. Im just saying. And whats up with all the glitter on her arms? That would have been a nightmare to get rid of the next morning.
I want to say that Sapna Pabbi is dressed like my cousin in the 90s when she had a board meeting but Im not going to say that because this look by Urvashi Joneja is way more stylish.
Somebody needs to tell Richa Chadda that less is more. This Akanksha Gajria sheer sari was a great way to show off a modern blouse or just to go completely crazy with the blouse. But instead Richa chose a traditional strappy one. But lets talk about her Judith Leiber strawberry cupcake minaudire. It looks good enough to eat.
Kiara Advani was in a suit by The Circus and she looked just fine. But its her Judith Leiber Chihuahua minaudire thats got me a little confused. I mean, I get the strawberry cupcake one but how does one fit stuff into a bag thats shaped like a Chihuahua? Like do your keys go in the tail, your change in the ears and you have to roll your cash tight to fit it into the body? Like what do you do?
Tabu should wear more streamlined looks. She just looks so stunning. And tall. Man, she looks tall in this dress.
Thats a pink suit. A baby pink suit. Thats a baby pink suit worn with blue loafers. Thats a baby pink suit worn with blue loafers that Im totally digging. Especially the tiny zips at the end of the jodhpurs.
And then theres this one thats making me want to dig a grave to bury the suit in.
I swear by God if I see another Herve Lger bandage dress Im going to have a coronary. But Im loving the ear cuff on Amrita Rao.
