Best Actress winner, Emma Stone paid tribute to the old world charm of her movie La La Land in this flapper dress by Givenchy. The gold shimmery gown was an ode to the Oscar statue in the most fashionable way.

Emma did not stop just at the dress. She went retro with wavy hair and bold lips. This was easily one of the best dresses of the night.

Added bonus: The beaded fringe looked amazing in motion.

Fifty Shades of Grey actress Dakota Johnson too was inspired by the Oscar statue and chose this high-neck Gucci gown with a bow at the waist. I could have done without the bow but the dress was lovely and Dakota was a picture of elegance in it.

Charlize Theron chose her favourite Dior for the Oscars. In this gold lamé gown and MASSIVE Chopard chandelier earrings, Charlize might not have set the red carpet on fire but she surely looked gorgeous.

Jessica Biel looked so statuesque in this formfitting Kaufman Franco gown. I would totally believe it if you told me that the dress was literally sculpted on her. Husband Justin Timberlake looked super dapper.

Take a closer look at the gorgeous detailing on the gown. Stunning, isn't it?

Nicole Kidman wore a nude Armani Privé gown with embroidery so exquisite, you could not look away. Seriously, as I continue writing this article I have one eye on the gown. And yes, I know that technically it's not golden but she surely had a golden glow to her which is why she's one of the Golden Girls.
Black and white

Moonlight and Hidden Figures actress Janelle Monae's Elie Saab dress had everything - feathers, crystals and beads. But the meaning behind the dress was far more noteworthy - Janelle chose the black and white colours as a way to, "pay homage to my working-class roots," as she told media outlets.

Michelle Williams' velvet and embroidered Louis Vuitton was the perfect match for this elegant beauty. And Michelle wore it with minimal but stunning jewellery.

Emma Roberts walked the red carpet in a black and white Armani Privé gown. It was absolutely feminine and oh-so-elegant. I love detailing on the bottom half.

Winner of the Best Supporting Actress, Viola Davis wore a red cold shoulder gown with grace and elegance.

Best Actress nominee Ruth Negga wore a red Valentino gown. She beautifully channelled "a pagan goddess" (as her stylish was quoted) in this high neck, full-sleeved lace gown. And how bright and bold is her lip colour!

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend had a blast on the red carpet. Chrissy showed some serious leg in this Zuhair Murad gown. If you were looking for drama on the red carpet, look no further. Chrissy brought it in her flowy, sexy gown.

Naomie Harris bucked tradition and instead of a gown chose a dress cropped at the knees by Calvin Klein. Her sweetheart neckline had a slit at the bust and attached to the back of the dress was train. This dress was unique, bold and definitely one of the favourites. A shout-out to the mismatched heels.
Beauties in black

Kirsten Dunst wore a basic black high-low gown by Dior and despite the simplicity of the gown I'm quite on board. Good going, Kirsten.

Brie Larson's Oscar de la Renta strapless ruffled gown looked great in movement while she walked onto stage but along with the styling I'm not a big fan of this look.

Alicia Vikander too chose a black dress, this one by Louis Vuitton. The lace on the gown was lovely. However, Alicia could have done with some colour when it came to her make-up.

Salma Hayek looked lovely in this Alexander McQueen gown which was only made better by her brilliantly subtle hair and make-up.
Colourful wonders

Goddess Meryl Streep marches to her own beat. And so instead of a gown, she went on to wear a jumpsuit-esque Elie Saab gown with a skirt like train. Even though she tripped on the train while walking the red carpet, Meryl owned the look like the boss that she is.

Scarlett Johansson wore a sheer gown by Azzedine Alaïa that showed off some tasteful side boob. I like that she chose a print, something we don't often see on the Oscar red carpet. As she came to present an award, the gown bellowed behind her like a goddamn cape! It was amazing.

Hailee Steinfeld's Ralph and Russo gown was a ruffled delight. The colour kept things young and fresh.

Halle Berry wore a blush pink Atelier Versace dress which showed off her great frame. The dress was so dreamy and romantic. However the highlight was her natural curls.

Hidden Figures actress Taraji P. Henson brought her sexy style to the red carpet in this navy off shoulder Alberta Ferretti gown with a thigh-high slit. Her bombshell hair and sparking necklace added to the whole drama.
