Shashank Arora, who is making his acting debut with Yash Raj Films' Titli, says he was never offered the role. "On the contrary," he clarifies, "I fought and struggled for it."
The newcomer calls the audition process a "traumatising experience." He says, "It took two months and I had to give around 50 auditions. My character (Titli) lives a life I have never been exposed to. My casting director Atul Mongia wanted me to try and understand it."
In the process, Shashank had some extreme experiences. "I have never been slapped by my father except maybe twice, and that too, for not completing a school project or something like that. For this film, however, I had to get myself beaten with chappals and was even thrown on the ground," he recalls.
The story didn't end there. He even had to defecate at Versova Chowpatty to get a feel of his character. "It was very embarrassing, but it was essential for me to understand Titli," he sums up.
