After every award function in India, people start commenting on their authenticity. Actors like Aamir Khan, Ajay Devgn and Kangana Ranaut have been boycotting awards for over a decade just to prove this point. However, most of these actors are appreciative of Hollywood awards like Oscars. Why such a discrimination? We ask Anil Kapoor, who has been working in the Western film and television industry for quite some time now.

“The grass is always greener on the other side. Because we are in India, we don’t get to know about a lot of controversies that take place in other countries. Many times, there are controversies that are way bigger than what we can ever imagine in India. This year too, there has been a lot of controversies regarding whether the nominations have been fair or not. Whether they have been diverse with the choices of the films is a big issue this time. Every year, every actor gives in his best performance, but they don’t win every year. So, there has to be some integrity somewhere because of which different people win every year. At the end of the day, people who win the awards always feel that they are genuine, while the ones who don’t win think otherwise,” says Anil.

The Oscars ceremony will be held on February 28.
