Directed by Ayan Mukerji, ‘Brahmastra Part One: Shiva’ stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Mouni Roy, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna and more
The much-awaited Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer Brahmastra has finally arrived in theatres. But, does it live up to its hype or the audience’s expectations? Well, there’s a lot of grey area in that question and honestly, the trilogy seems to be worth the wait.
However, there’s also a lot to consider before we rule it out as a movie worth spending time on. To simplify that statement for better understanding, let us just say that the audience’s approval for the film depends on what are you watching this film for!
There’s an audience for everything, while one might watch it for its action, others might love this Ranbir-Alia starrer for its VFX. Honestly, Brahmastra is a good actioner. But, here’s where the problem starts:
Brahmāstra: Part One, is a Hindi-language fantasy adventure film written and directed by Ayan Mukerji which narrates the story of Shiva (Ranbir Kapoor) who sets out in the search of his parents and self-discovery. His meet cute with Parvati (Alia Bhatt) makes for a stirring journey during which he has to face many evil forces that threaten the existence of humankind.
And this is where the problems emerge. Well, the plot seems simple and easy to grasp but Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s forced love story just overshadow all the positives of this film. While the supporting actors have gracefully done their part right, Ranbir and Alia just don’t bring a spark as a couple on screen.
Speaking of their characters individually, Ayan Mukerji’s design for Alia’s character was a major flop and he could have done a better job than just making her a total handicap practically asking for Shiva to spoon feed her every single time.
Well, what can we say about a protagonist on a journey for self-discovery? Everything seems to be forgiven for him and his flame. Nevertheless, Bollywood seems to have a fetish about abandoning fathers and those typically heavy love stories. Shiva, yet again comes as a character heavy with daddy issues, and there are really some things that need to be tweaked.
But, wait!
That’s not all. Technically, Ranbir and Alia are not the only ones to be blamed here. It’s also the tormenting screenplay that disturbs the status quo.
The approximately 180-minute film is full of annoying dialogues and actors narrating the scenes.
Sadly, beyond the chaos and ‘Nibba-nibbi love story’ there is an epic actioner that one might easily enjoy. Frankly, the film might set new standards for VFX artists and upcoming films. But, apart from that the film also stands out when it comes to its action sequences.
The amalgamation of VFX and nail-biting action sequences has a rather interesting outcome and some of the scenes will leave you on the edge of your seat!
Speaking of the supporting characters, Mouni Roy, Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna and others have done a commendable job and they have practically saved the film. However, Mouni looks an absolute bombshell while playing Junoon and she has effortlessly stolen the show.
High on mystery, Brahmastra tries to give its audience a bit of everything. But, in its attempt to be a master of all, the film turned out to be the jack of none. In addition, the soulful tunes make it worthwhile, as the catchy songs just grab your attention and they will help you connect with the film easily.
To conclude, apart from the unnecessary dialogues by Hussain Dalal and the annoying forceful love story between Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, Brahmastra is an epic action drama that will quench your thirst for the good action-packed film which turns out to be a visual treat for the audience.
