Bhangra Paa Le, Movie Review: Nothing To Dance About In This Sunny Kaushal-Rukshar Dhillon Slow Melodrama

I am still a sucker for a bit of melodrama but what if a film based on bhangra is as slow as a snail? Why does Sunny Kaushal dive so deep into his character of a good bhangra dancer that he dances faster than required and hence shows no grace in his movements? The boy has acting in his genes but tends to overact in places and is very short on emotion in  his dialogue delivery.

And why do so many characters in the film break into a bhangra for no rhyme or reason? Like who in the Team Bhangra Paa Le is so fond of bhangra? I really want to know. Visualise this: A family who does not like an intruder asking for their girl's hand in marriage gets tamed when the pleading lover breaks into a solo bhangra after entering their compound! What nautank
i!

The production values are not what Ronnie Screwvala's production house RSVP has given us, so far. I am intrigued by the experiments undertaken by this production house and know that many have hit the bull's eye- and have impressed me as well- but this latest one is far from it. Bhangra Paa Le falls flat on its face.

Perhaps the only good thing about the film is Rukshar Dhillon. She's vibrant and emotive, with apt dancing skills and an effervescent smile. Filmmakers, please note.

The heavy Punjabi culture in the film froths up a question. Isn't it harsh on the Hindi audience to have so much of Punjabi in so many films, nowadays? Yeh Punjabi mauhaul ka kya fad chaddha hai sab ko?

The filmmakers (Sneha Taurani and of course Ronnie too) have tried to play safe by setting it against an army backdrop, but nope, Bhangra Paa Le has nothing to dance about, in fact, nothing to talk about.

I am going with ONE-and-HALF.
