In a shocking course of events, veteran Bollywood actress Nimmi, on Wednesday, took her last breath at the age of 88. Born as Nawab Banoo, Nimmi passed away due to a prolonged illness. As per the reports, her last rites will take place on Thursday. It was the legendary Raj Kapoor that gave her the screen name of Nimmi and she had made her debut with his film, Barsaat. Some of Nimmi’s iconic performances include Uran Khatola, Mere Mehboob, Basant Bahar, Amar and Daag among others.
In a conversation with Indian Express, Nimmi’s brother-in-law Ijhar Hussain revealed, “She had been unwell for some time now. We had celebrated her 87th birthday on March 18. We will be having the last rites tomorrow but are yet to decide on how to do the funeral considering the body cannot be brought to the society due to the coronavirus, and also we aren’t sure how many people can gather for the funeral. We will take a decision tonight.”
Soon after the news of Nimmi’s demise hit the internet, various celebrities like Rishi Kapoor and Mahesh Bhatt took to their social media and poured in their tributes for the veteran actress. Rishi Kapoor tweeted, “RIP. Thank you Nimmi aunty for all the blessings and love for Bobby on its premiere release. You were part of the RK family. Barsaat was your first film. Allha aapko Jannat naseeb kare. Ameen.”

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt remembered Nimmi by writing, “You may win your hearts desire, but in the end you are cheated of it by death.” Goodbye Nimmiji Folded hands . Yesteryear’s dove-eyed actress Nimmi passes away at 88.”
