Every year on February 4 World Cancer Day is observed by people across the world. The day is marked in order to create awareness about this deadly disease and to inspire change and reduce the global impact of cancer. Many Bollywood celebrities, including Sanjay Dutt, Manisha Koirala, Ayushmann Khurrana’s wife Tahira Kashyap, Sonali Bendre, and others have been diagnosed with deadly cancer in the past and they have bravely fought it while dishing out inspirations for millions.

Starting with Sanju baba, the actor was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2020 and went to the US for treatment. Sanjay emerged victoriously and defeated the deadly disease. On the occasion of his kids’ 10th birthday, he shared the news of his victory over cancer via a post on his Instagram. An excerpt from his caption read, “The last few weeks were very difficult time for my family and me. But like they say, God gives the hardest battles to his strongest soldiers. And today, on the occasion of my kids’ birthday, I am happy to come out victorious from this battle and be able to give them the best gift I can--the health and well-being of our family.”

Sonali Bendre was diagnosed with metastatic cancer in 2018. The actress went to the USA for treatment and returned as a cancer-free person. Tahira Kashyap and Veteran actress Mumtaz emerged victorious in their battles with breast cancer.  Indian-Canadian actress Lisa Ray was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare, incurable form of blood cancer. In February 2010, she was cancer-free. Manisha Koirala, on the other hand, was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer in 2012. The actress underwent surgery in the USA and defeated this deadly disease.

Besides them, filmmaker Anurag Basu bravely fought with acute promyelocytic leukemia – a type of blood cancer. He was cancer-free despite a 50 percent chance of his survival. Last but not the least, Kirron Kher was diagnosed with multiple myeloma last year. She has been undergoing treatment for cancer over the past few months.
