Here’s a piece of good
news for Priyanka Chopra and Aamir Khan’s fans. Buzz is strong in the industry
that the two stars will mostly come together on-screen for Rakesh Sharma’s
biopic, where Priyanka will play Aamir’s wife.
Well yes, the film which is being helmed by
Mahesh Mathani and produced jointly by Aamir Khan and Siddharth Roy Kapur, will
mostly go on floors by 2018 or probably later till the time Aamir is convinced
with the script and other research required for the film.
While this will be Siddharth Roy Kapur’s first
film as an independent producer after he quit Disney, Mahesh Mathani has
earlier directed 1999 human-drama, Bhopal Express, which revolved around a
newlywed couple and how their lives changed after the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy.
Talking about Rakesh Sharma, the astronaut had a
glorious life which can be beautifully put on celluloid. On April 2, 1984, the
Soviet rocket Soyuz T-11 blasted off into space with the ship's commander Yury
Malyshev, flight engineer Gennadi Strekalov, and the first Indian to fly into
space, Rakesh Sharma. The trio spent seven days, 21 hours and 40 minutes aboard
the Salyut 7 Orbital Station conducting scientific and technical studies,
including 43 experimental sessions.
Sharma started out as a test pilot with the
Indian Air Force in 1970 before graduating to Squadron Leader and pilot of the
Indian Air Force in 1984. Two years before that, on September 20, he was selected as a cosmonaut to go into space as
part of a joint programme between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)
and the Soviet Intercosmos space program. On his return he was conferred the
honour of Hero of Soviet Union and decorated with the Ashok Chakra, the highest
peacetime gallantry award.
Coming back to Priyanka and Aamir’s pairing, as of now
these are just early whispers, if the duo actually gets together, it will be
interesting to see them work with each other for the first time.
