M S Dhoni biopic hits theatres tomorrow and the
buzz in the industry is so positive that pundits predict the film to be a
whopping success.
SpotboyE.com has it that multiplexes and single-screens both
have received a terrific response. A source says, "This will be the
second biggest opening of this year after Sultan."
Leading distributor Ramesh Sippy says, "I see M S
Dhoni: The Untold Story enjoying a Rs 50 crore weekend."
Endorsing Sippy's projection, trade analyst Komal Nahata
says, "Let me explain. M S Dhoni is still playing on the field and
continues to be the most popular cricketer of our nation. People want to know
every possible thing about him. I am not undermining Sushant's popularity, or
performance which I think will be good--- but let's say this straight that the
star of the film is Dhoni."
Adds Nahata, "Also, let's do the breakdown. The first
day itself should garner anything between Rs 15-18 crore. I wouldn't be
surprised if the weekend figure touches even Rs 55 crore. M S Dhoni: The Untold
Story should be a 100 crore plus film."
Another senior distributor Shyam Shroff says, "I
won't commit to how much the film will collect at the turnstiles, but
let me tell you that our nation's craze about Dhoni is going to spill into his
biopic and make it a big success. The theatres are buzzing at the ticket
windows, and it's been a long time since such anticipation was seen."
However, Gaiety-Galaxy-Maratha Mandir Executive
Director Manoj Desai is holding his cards to his chest. "Look, India is
mad about cricket. So yes, I won't be surprised if I get a housefull. So far,
the booking is good. But still, I would prefer going on record about the film's
fate M S Dhoni: The Untold Story's Biopic only tomorrow. I have a concern,
and that is the film's length which is over 3 hours. So yeah, let's wait and
watch before shooting our mouths off."
