After a hiatus of
several years, Sridevi returned to the silver screen with Gauri Shinde's
English Vinglish (2012). And what a comeback it was! Proved that she may
have been gone for long, but her magic remained unfazed.

Some time before
the legendary actress’ film was to hit theatres, she, in an interview with
Mumbai Mirror, spoke about motherhood, Janhvi’s debut and Himmatwala remake
(helmed by Sajid Khan with Ajay Devgn and Tamannaah Bhatia in lead
roles).
On being asked
for her thoughts on the remake of the film which shot her to fame, she had
said, “Himmatwala was no Mughal-E-Azam. I really wouldn't mind
seeing the remake (sic).”
This comment did
not go down well with Jeetendra’s son, Tusshar Kapoor, and he had said, “How
can she run down a film that has given her identity in Bollywood and is one of
the biggest hits of her career? My dad and
Sridevi were terrific in that film and though the critics panned it because it
was a potboiler; I defend it because it is one of the films that my father is
most identified with.”
Months
later, Tusshar had gone on record to clear the air and stated that he was
misunderstood.
“Sometimes
misunderstandings happen, but that's not what I meant. I only showed
possessiveness over the film, I liked her a lot in it. I am no one to be upset
with somebody who is so senior, so popular, such a big legend,” the Golmaal
Again actor had said.
Interestingly,
Sajid Khan never spoke about the controversy and lesser said about the remake,
the better.
