Janhvi Kapoor is one of the most loved stars in Bollywood. She made her debut with Dhadak and later went on to star in films like Gunjan Saxena, Kargil Girl and Roohi. She also starred in Zoya Akhtar directed short film in the Netflix anthology film, Ghost Stories. However, there was a time when Sridevi wasn't in favour of Janhvi joining the film industry.

In 2017, when Janhvi was shooting for her debut film, Sridevi told Mid-Day, "She wanted to do the film and initially, I wasn't in favour. I don't think it's a bad industry, I am a creation of this world. But, as a parent, it would give me greater joy to see her married. But her happiness matters more, and if she does well as an actor, I will be a proud mother."

Sridevi died on February 24, 2018, in Dubai. She died just a few months before her daughter Janhvi's debut film Dhadak was released. Janhvi was extremely close to her mother. In an interview with Filmfare, Sridevi had said, "I'm closer to Janu and Khushi is closer to Boney ji. But we're honest with each other and extremely close. Khushi is far more independent than Janhvi."
