Sonam Kapoor has come a long way in Bollywood after delivering some stellar performances over the years. The actress has managed to entertain fans with her films like Neerja, Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo, Pad Man, Veere Di Wedding, Ranjhanaa, Khubsoorat and more. Sonam, who marked her Bollywood debut with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya completed 13 glorious years in the Hindi film industry. Before her big launch as the lead actress in an SLB film, Kapoor worked with him as an assistant director. But, once, Sonam Kapoor opened up about the time when Bhansali got upset when he found out she was Anil Kapoor’s daughter.
During the promotions of her film The Zoya Factor, in an interview with ETC Bollywood, Sonam Kapoor had shared how she told her mom Sunita Kapoor that she did not want to attend college but instead work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Sonam shared that her mom denied and she then tried to convince her dad Anil Kapoor. As Anil Kapoor did remember that Bhansali worked with filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra as his assistant in the film 1942: A Love Story, he was sceptical because he did not know SLB personally. Sonam then convinced her dad after informing him that Ranbir Kapoor was assisting as well.
Recalling her first meeting with SLB, the Aisha actress revealed he was not aware that she is Anil Kapoor’s daughter. Talking about the first day, she said, “The first day I went to his office to meet him, I was sitting at a table. He just came back from church and he looked at me and he is like, ‘You have come for acting? Are you here for an audition?’ I said, ‘No, sir, I have come to be an assistant.’ He said, ‘But you should act, haan.’ I said okay.” Sonam then mentioned that when SLB found out who she was, he ‘got very upset’. Kapoor continued, “Then he found out who my father was and he got very upset. He was like, ‘Are you allowed...?’ I was 17 years old and bohot jhooth-voot bol ke (after lying a lot) I was there. But I got it on my own.”
