Veteran Bollywood actor Johny Lever, who has extensively worked in the entertainment industry for decades, enjoys a huge fan following. Having made a name for himself as a credible actor, he is known for his impeccable comic timing and over-the-top facial expressions. Watching him perform always leaves the audience in a good mood, however, did you know that there was a time in his life when he wanted to end it all? The actor, who seldom opens up about his life experiences, professional as well as personal, recalled the darkest phase of his life.

During an interaction with YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, for his podcast, Lever was asked about the darkest phase of his life. Having grown up in the slums of Dharavi, the 66-year-old actor recalled how he found himself standing on the railway tracks, ready to end it all, at the age of 13. He went on to clarify that he took the decision as he was fed up with his father. He expressed that during that time, their family was struggling financially, and earning money just to afford food was essential.

As reported by the Times Of India, he relived the harrowing experience of his early teenage years. The Golmaal 3 actor recalled how at the brink of committing suicide because he was extremely fed up with his father, his 13-year-old self had contemplated ending his life by lying on the railway tracks. However, as the train approached, he thought about his sisters which prompted him to reconsider his rash decision.

Further in the interview he also revealed that he often witnessed murders in his childhood, seeing dead bodies and body parts just lying around. He stated that if he hadn’t gotten a chance to work in the entertainment industry, he would have become a gangster.

On the work front, Johny Lever has been challenging himself as an actor these days by taking up roles that are far from his comedic image. He will be next seen in Lantrani, co-starring Jitendra Kumar and Jisshu Sengupta, a film set to stream on Zee5. He is the father of internet personalities Jamie Lever and Jesse Lever.
