At the trailer launch of his upcoming international film Pelé: Birth of a Legend,  A.R. Rahman openly supported Salman Khan being appointed as Indian contingent’s goodwill ambassador for Rio Olympics.

“He (Salman) is a very popular face, so why not?” said the composer.

On further being asked if it was right to choose an actor instead of a sportsperson, the soft-spoken Rahman laughingly said, “Don't ask me, ask the people concerned” . Watch the video above to see what the music maestro said.

The composer also denied being approached as a goodwill ambassador for the event. “I heard it from the press, but nobody has approached me. I didn’t get any email,” he said.
