Yesterday, Wajid Khan, one half of the music composer duo Sajid-Wajid, passed away. His sudden demise came as a shock to his many fans, as well as friends and colleagues from the film industry. People took to their social media expressing their grief over the loss. Now, lyricist Danish Sabri, who is also a cousin of Wajid Khan, remembered him recalling some memories that he shared with him. Danish has penned the lyrics for many hit songs by Sajid-Wajid such as Dabangg, Main Tera Hero, and others.

Speaking to IANS, Danish Sabri said that he has never felt so shattered in his life before except for the time when his father died. “Today, I am a lyricist because of him. He was my elder brother. He was my mama’s (maternal uncle) son, but he was more than my own brother. He was a father figure in my life,” he said. Danish further stated that he had come to Mumbai, wanting to become a singer, but Wajid suggested he could become a lyricist as he liked his writing and also introduced him to Salman Khan.

Danish remembered Wajid’s reaction if he ever missed his call. He said, “He would call me every day to enquire about me and my family. If I sometimes missed his call, he would tell me, ‘today you are busy but you will remember me and miss me when I am no more’. Today his words came true as a cruel reality.”

Wajid Khan’s last rites were performed at Versova crematorium and among those present were his family members, Aditya Pancholi, Aalim Hakim, and Salman Khan’s close friend Nadeem. ALSO READ: Wajid Khan No More: Sonu Nigam Writes A Heartfelt Eulogy: ‘He Didn't Get His Due’
