Ever since the success of his movie The Kashmir Files, Vivek Agnihotri has been very vocal about the injustices newcomers and outsiders have to face in the Bollywood industry. He is often seen taking digs at the welfare of the industry and pointing out how they don’t make good content-driven movies anymore. Recently, the director took to Twitter and slammed the Bollywood producers by sharing the budget and approximate box office collection of four small budget movies.
Sharing his take on how Bollywood filmmakers should learn from the box office collections of The Kashmir Files, Kartikeya 2, Kantara and Rocketry, he wrote, "4 small films with no stars, no marketing or distribution support - #TheKashmirFiles, #Kartikeya2, #Kantara & #Rocketry earned approx 800 Cr at BO. Total cost of production of 4 films under 75 cr. Is Bollywood blind, deaf & dumb that they don’t understand simple maths and learn?" ALSO READ: WHAT! Is Bollywood blind, deaf & dumb that they don’t understand simple maths and learn?
Known for being brutally honest, the director is often seen pointing fingers at Bollywood for their flaws. Recently during an interview with Deccan Herald, Agnihotri had shared his opinion on #BoycottBollywood. He had expressed that the trend is extremely good as it "shows people’s frustration with the kind of films that Bollywood is producing."
He went on to share that he doesn’t consider himself a part of Bollywood. Speaking about how Bollywood stars act like Gods and make fun of middle class people, he said, "Kashmiri Muslims, Bengalis, and South Indians have problems with Bollywood because of their bad representation. Bollywood makes fun of the middle class, who are their buyers, and they think people are dumb. Unlike South Indian film stars, Bollywood stars are not connected with people, and they behave as if they are Gods."
