Singer-composer Vishal Dadlani has quit politics after his controversial tweet on Jain Monk Tarun Sagar invited severe backlash from members of Jain community and political figures alike. He took to Twitter to announce his exit.
For the uninitiated, on Saturday, Dadlani had questioned Tarun Sagar addressing the Haryana Assembly and also mocked him for appearing nude. He had tweeted, “If you voted for these people, YOU are responsible for this absurd nonsense! No #AchcheDin, just #NoKachcheDin (sic)”.
Needless to say, Dadlani’s remarks didn’t go down well with members of the Jain community and they began ridiculing him. Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Chief Arvind Kejriwal took to Twitter to praise the monk.
Soon after, Dadlani apologised for hurting religious sentiments and confessed that it was a mistake. He also insisted that he intended to ridicule the merger of religion and governance and not any religion in particular.
About an hour post that, he made the shocking announcement of disconnecting himself from politics. The decision came as a blow to a lot of AAP followers.
Dadlani was a part of Aam Aadmi Party since its inception in 2012 and had been a staunch supporter of Arvind Kejriwal.
