Vidya Balan Reveals She Has Been Working With A Healer For Years: ‘I Used To Be Very Unkind To Myself’

Vidya Balan opens up about her character in the upcoming film Shakuntala Devi, the journey she has had to be kind to herself, and reveals she has been working with a healer for years now.

Vidya Balan is on a roll! Having produced the short film Natkhat which released in June, to now gearing up for the release of her upcoming film Shakuntala Devi, which is all set to release on July 31, on Amazon Prime, the actress has had quite a busy year so far. The actress will play the titular role of the mathematician genius Shakuntala Devi, and in a recent interview, she opened up about the character, her mental health and the journey she had learning to be kind to herself.

While speaking with Pinkvilla, Vidya Balan said that learning to love herself has been a long journey and she is still working on it. She said, “I am not accepting of myself every single day, there are days when I get up feeling angry with myself, feel wrong-ed about something, some old rejection shows up, god knows what is the trigger, not feeling good about your body, so I think it is never absolute. The process is never complete.” However, she said that it is important to realize that its never too late to start working on oneself, by which she doesn’t mean going to the gym, or on a diet, but rather, being kind to themselves.

Vidya Balan then shared her own experience from back when she used to be very unkind to herself, and has been working with a healer for years. “I have been working with a healer for a few years now, and that is something I had to learn. I used to be very unkind to myself, there are times when I still slip into being over critical and judgemental of myself, then I remind myself of my various strengths and then the things which bothered me, lose power over me,” she said.

Speaking about her character in Shakuntala Devi, Vidya Balan said that her character in the film is very inspiring. “She is everything that you don't expect from a math genius. She laughs loudly, has a wicked sense of humour, she is interesting, she is interested in herself, she lives life to the fullest,” said Vidya.
