Women look beautiful when they are slim and trim - this social perception has haunted many women for a long time. Though the times are changing, there is a long way to go. Actresses especially have a pressure to have a perfect body as they are always under the public glare. But Vidya Balan managed to change the norm and emerged as one of the best actresses in town despite being on the heavy side. In her recent interview, she spoke about the mental trauma she suffered as her weight became a national issue.

As reported by Hindustan Times, Vidya stated that it took her a long time to accept her body. She revealed suffering from hormonal issues leading to weight gain and how it left her frustrated. "It was important for me to have gone through what I did. It was very public and at that time it was so insurmountable. I come from a non-film family. There was no one to tell me that these phases don’t last. My weight issue had become a national issue. I have always been a fat girl; I wouldn’t say that I am at a stage where my fluctuating weight doesn’t bother me anymore at all. But I have come a long way. I have had hormonal issues all my life. For the longest time, I hated my body. I thought it had betrayed me. On the days I was under the pressure of looking my best, I would bloat up and I would be so angry and frustrated," she said.

Further, Vidya stated that she now has a lot of gratitude for her body as the day it stops functioning, she won't be alive. She stated she has begun to love and accept herself more and it is a tough path. More power to you Vidya Balan.
