Salman Khan has been sentenced to 5 years of jail after being convicted in the 2002 hit-and-run case. The Court found him guilty on all charges, including driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a license and culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Since the sentence is more than three years, Salman can apply for bail to High Court.
The actor is being taken to Arthur Road Jail.
Salman was booked under Section 304 A of the Indian Penal Code (rash and negligent driving); 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing minor injuries), 338 (causing major injuries), 427 (negligence) in connection with the case along with Under Motor Vehicle Act Sections 34 (a), (b) read with 181 (driving vehicle in contravention of rules); 185 (driving at great speed after consuming alcohol).
The defence tried to get him the least possible term, with Salman’s lawyer pleading mercy on medical grounds. The actor has been suffering from trigeminal neuralgia.
