Dishoom’s number Sau Tarah Ke made headlines for the wrong reasons earlier this week. The song sees Jacqueline Fernandez wearing a Kirpan around her waist, which offended the Sikh community as they felt the Kirpan “dangled in an inappropriate manner.” The General Secretary of Delhi Gurdwara Committee, Manjinder Singh Sirsa sent a legal notice to director Rohit Dhawan and Jacqueline (Kirpan around Jacqueline’s waist invites wrath of Sikh community, June 14).
At the launch of the song this morning, Dishoom’s lead star Varun Dhawan attributed the entire episode to a “misunderstanding”.
The actor said, “It’s not a Kirpan, we have used an Arabic sword. I am Punjabi myself and so is my brother. We would never do something like that. I think it’s a misunderstanding.”
