Varun Dhawan has lent support to the Indian Cancer Society’s drive against smoking. He has acted in a short film called ‘Be Smart, Dont Start which has the Maharashtra government backing it.
“The film starts off with Varun smoking a cigarette. A child artiste has been cast as his younger brother, who asks for a cigarette from him. When Varun says smoking is a bad habit, his brother questions why he is doing it in that case,” says a source close to the development.
The idea is to dissuade youngsters from smoking as research indicates that if someone doesn't smoke a stick till the age of 30, there are lesser chances that he will touch a cigarette ever in life.
Varun was chosen to represent the campaign since he is extremely popular with the youth and his plea will resonate with them.
The film will be shown across schools and colleges in Maharashtra, followed with educational institutions across the rest of India. In the second stage of the drive, it will be screened in cinema halls.
