Incredible but true. Bollywood’s hearthrob, Varun Dhawan, had once contemplated suicide on being rejected by his girlfriend.
He had thought of slashing his wrists and worse, after plunging into a state of depression on breaking up with a girl from HR college whom he had dated steadily for four years in his teenaged days.
Mercifully, his parents and brother did not pry into his death wish mood. Instead, they encouraged him to take off for a getaway trip to Goa and then to pursue studies in UKs Nottingham University. Neither helped to pull the then introverted Varun, from his chronic depression.
The girl in question is none other than fashionista Natasha Dalal, whom he is once again dating steadily, and obviously considers the love of his life. What about Alia Bhatt, his Student of the Year co-star, whom he has been often linked with? Logic would indicate that she is one of those classic “good friends”. After all, she had inaugurated Natashas fashion outlet a while back.
Apparently Natashas family, located in South Bombay, had objected to Varun since he came from a film family. Instead, they had chosen a prospective groom from a family of their acquaintance. Varun was distraught on seeing the girl he loved with her intended groom at the Trident Hotel and at the Prive club.
Varun could not think of even touching another girl. At home, he would listen to the Meat Loaf song Id do anything for love.. repeatedly. Neither could he forget their dates at Juhus Shiv Sagar restaurant where they would order either masala cheese dosas or pizzas. She would pay, since he didnt have any source of income then. He would drop her at Santa Cruz railway station so she could get home at a decent hour to Churchgate.
Varuns story has been a real life case of love at first sight. As soon as he had seen her at HR college, he had borrowed a red rose from a girl on the campus and handed it over to Natasha.
Eventually, the actor now 28, realized that he was a ‘narcissist wallowing in self-pity and turned towards focusing on his career as soon as he was offered Student of the Year by Karan Johar. Overnight, a star was born. In the film, Varuns character, Rohan Nanda, didnt get the girl at the end. In real life, though, he is back with his first and perhaps only love.
And we are not concocting any of these details. They are to be found in a little read short story written by Varun Dhawan himself. Only in the short story, for the sake of discretion, the girls name had been altered from Natasha to Nupur.
