Amrish Puri’s grandson Vardhan Puri made his big screen debut in 2019 with a romantic thriller Yeh Saali Aashiqui. After garnering rave reviews for the film, Vardhan got his second film with The Tashkent Files director, Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri. The film titled, The Last Show, also features two veterans Anupam Kher and Satish Kaushik.
The two actors have worked with Vardhan’s grandfather before, but it is Vardhan’s first time working with the veterans and he insists that he has learnt a lot while working with them. “I learnt how to be child-like even after doing so much work. I saw that kind of enthusiasm in them. I also saw the madness and passion they brought to their role and that was so inspiring. I realised that you can do 500 films but if you can manage to be as excited after so much work and behave like it’s your first film, that’s what makes an actor, an artist,” he shares.
Vardhan goes on to rave about his co-stars some more. “I learnt from them how to still be so excited, hungry and curious yet honest, and still bring the unison of experience and child-like nature together to create magic. I saw magic happen right in front of me and I could just soak it all in,” he says gleefully.
Anupam and Satish have an old and long-lasting friendship. Did Vardhan get to witness that on set? “Wo yaar hain aur kamaal hain,” he smiles, adding, “Their camaraderie, masti and madness was so much that I was only in splits throughout. They are only laughing and pulling pranks all the time. I also became a part of it and it felt amazing. It felt like I was with two 20-year-olds. You’d never realise that these are such iconic actors, who are considered legends of their craft. From afar, I would get that feeling that I was working with two legends but closer, with them, it felt like they were just two kids,” Vardhan signs off.
