The Ministry of Home Affairs, announced that theatres across the country could open from October 15, in non-containment zones. On September 30, as the Unlock 5.0 guidelines suggests that movie theatres across the country could open at 50% capacity, the move has not pleased many theatre owners. Although grateful that businesses shut for almost 6 months, will re-open, theatre owners in Maharashtra have different concerns as theatres in Maharashtra will not have much content to screen with no Bollywood mass entertainers. Now, as per reports, Film distributors and owners are hopeful for businesses to boom by Diwali with the release of Radhe, Sooryavanshi and other films.

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Jaipur-based exhibitor, Raj Bansal shared that his plan is to depend on the mass entertainers like Hera Pheri, the Dhoom franchise and others. Another Mumbai-based theatre owner mentioned that as everyone waits patiently for the release of Big Bollywood films, the other alternative is to screen regional content.

Meanwhile, Maratha Mandir and G7 Multiplex owner Manoj Desai said that he is waiting for his achche din and mentioned how he was expected to fall under the order released by the centre. Talking about the re-opening of theatres in Mumbai, he said, “But I’m still waiting for my achche din. Our representatives are trying to speak to the government to reopen cinema halls in Maharashtra like the rest of the country." Apart from Desai, Kamal Gianchandani, CEO of PVR Cinemas also said that the state is the torchbearer of the film business and stated that they are confident that if theatres open in Maharashtra even by October end, it will be a Happy Diwali for the theatre owners.

Sooryavanshi Team

Understanding the current situation, the theatres businesses are expected to be back on track in Mumbai, when mass entertainers like Salman Khan's Radhe, Akshay Kumar's Sooryavanshi, Ranveer Singh's 83 and other movies that are expected to release it theatres will premiere. While big blockbusters are hopeful for a good theatre business, Akshay Kumar’s Laxmmi Bomb will be one of the few films releasing in theatres overseas.
