Taapsee Pannu Breaks Silence On #BoycottThappad Trend, ‘It Is STUPID’

Taapsee Pannu participated in a peaceful gathering against the violence at JNU at Carter Road, Mumbai. Yes, she has an opinion, just like Deepika Padukone, and yes, their films must be boycotted. At least, that’s the sentiment a section of Twitter holds. Sad, but true!

Taapsee Pannu is a clutter breaker, Sonam Kapoor got that very right. Her latest offering Thappad, is a validation of the same. It breaks through the rut and also touches upon an extremely important and pertinent topic, domestic violence. Thappad hits cinema screens today and even before it could see the light of day, #BoycottThappad trend took over Twitter India. Why you ask?

Taapsee Pannu participated in a peaceful gathering against the violence at JNU, held at Carter Road, Mumbai. Yes, she has an opinion, just like Deepika Padokone, and yes, their films must be boycotted. At least, that’s the sentiment a section of Twitter holds. Sad but true! Thankfully critics could see through the clutter and noise and the film has garnered positive reviews, irrespective of inflammatory twitter trends.

Meanwhile, Taapsee was asked about the trend by ETimes and the lady had this to say. “I think personal opinions of actors should not affect their profession and I don’t really think it does to an extent. It takes about 1000-2000 tweets to trend a certain hashtag. Does that really affect a film? I don’t think so. I might have different social and political views from a lot of people but that does not mean people will not go and watch the film.” ALSO READ: Taapsee Pannu's Film Receives Same Treatment As Deepika Padukone's Chhapaak; #BoycottThappad Trends On Twitter

The actress added, “An actor is never bigger than a film. A film has hundreds of people involved in it. It is stupid to decide whether or not you will watch a movie based on an actor’s socio-political views.”
