Swades Actress Kishori Ballal Passes Away, SRK Mourns The Loss Of Kaveri Amma: ‘She Would Reprimand Me For Smoking’

Senior Kannada actress Kishori Ballal passed away yesterday and breathed her last in a hospital in Bangaluru. According to a report in Mid Day, the actress was suffering from age-related illnesses. Apart from acting in Kannada films, she has also been a part of Hindi films and was known for playing the role of Shah Rukh Khan’s guardian Kaveri Amma in the 2004 film Swades. Swades director Ashutosh Gowariker took to Twitter and grieved the loss yesterday. Now, Shah Rukh Khan has penned a heartfelt message.

Shah Rukh Khan took to his social media and mourned the loss of Kishori Ballal. Sharing a still from the film Swades along with Kaveri Amma, Shah Rukh remembered her and wrote in the caption of the Instagram post that she used to scold him for smoking. He wrote, “May her soul rest in peace. Kishori ‘Amma’ will be sorely missed. Especially how she used to reprimand me for smoking. May Allah look after her.”

Swades director Ashutosh Gowariker had also tweeted yesterday, “HEARTBROKEN! Terribly sad about the passing away of #KishoriBallal ji!! Kishori ji... you will be remembered for your generously kind, warm and affable persona! And your unforgettable performance as #Kaveriamma in #Swades !! You will surely be missed!!”


Kishori Ballal had made her Kannada film debut with Svalentha Hendthi in 1960. She has worked in many films over the years, with some of the finest actors and directors in the industry. Some of the films she has starred in include, Kahi, Hani Hani, Suryakanthi, Carry On Maratha, Aiyyaa, Lafangey Parindey, and many others.
