This announcement is particularly timely, coming just a day before the vote counting for India’s 18th general election. The biopic aims to capture the remarkable journey of Sen, who played a crucial role in shaping India's democratic framework. As reported by Variety, the film will delve into Sen's life as the mastermind behind India’s first general elections held in 1951-52. Sen, who was a mathematician and civil servant, was instrumental in transitioning India from a British colony to a democratic republic. His monumental task involved organizing the world's largest democratic exercise at that time, managing an electorate of 175 million people scattered across 565 princely kingdoms and newly formed states. Siddharth Roy Kapur expressed his enthusiasm about the project, highlighting the significance of Sen’s contributions. "We are so honored to bring to life the incredible story of one of our national heroes, Sukumar Sen, who played a crucial role in shaping India's democratic history. From devising the system of identifying political parties by symbols and colors to combat illiteracy, to introducing the idea of indelible ink on fingernails to prevent voter impersonation, many of his innovations are still in use today. His contribution to establishing the architecture of our democratic process deserves to be celebrated, and we look forward to sharing this thrilling story of our first election and the remarkable man behind it with audiences in India and around the world," Kapur stated.

Sen's grandsons, Sanjiv Sen and Debdatta Sen, also shared their views on the biopic. Sanjiv emphasized the importance of recognizing his grandfather’s foundational work in ensuring free and fair elections, which are the cornerstone of any democracy. "One of India's greatest successes as a nation has been its vibrant democracy. The credit for laying the bedrock of this electoral process must go to Sukumar Sen, my grandfather and the first Chief Election Commissioner of independent India. I wish the producers all the success in portraying the untold story of an unsung hero of this great nation," he said. Debdatta Sen echoed these sentiments, commending the effort to highlight such a significant figure and his achievements.

Romanchak Arora from Trickitainment Media also weighed in, noting that Sen's story is filled with dramatic and monumental moments that will resonate deeply with all Indian citizens who exercise their right to vote. "Told after 73 years, it is a must-see for all generations across the nation," Arora commented. Overall, this biopic promises to be a compelling tribute to Sukumar Sen, celebrating his pivotal role in establishing the democratic processes that form the backbone of modern India.
