It's all happening out there, as I often say. Bollywood is now buzzing loud, and real loud, that Harish Sugandh is planning to set up a remake of the fantastic Ramesh Sippy 1982 film Shakti that starred Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan.
We have also heard that Sugandh has bounced off the idea to Shree Narayan Singh (director of Toilet Ek Prem Katha) to direct the remake. The producer of the project is also yet to be finalised.
Sugandh has the IPR of Shakti, courtesy he and the late producer of Shakti, Mushir Riaz (who passed away 6 months ago) being close family friends. Plans are afoot to set the stage soon and get the film underway ASAP.
We don't know if Sugandh has approached Bachchan yet, but our sources tell us that he plans to cast the superstar in the thespian's role. Shakti revolved around a father and son who could not get along due to something that happened to the kid when he was small. Smita Patil played the female lead with Raakhee, Kulbushan Kharbanda and Amrish Puri in important roles. Salim-Javed had written its fabulous dialogues that still resonate in my ears after 37 years.
When contacted, Sugandh said, "Nothing concrete yet. 99 per cent no. In fact I may make something that I picked up in Delhi recently. Aap likhna mat varna baat bigad sakti hai."
We understand Sugandh that it is a bit premature, rather nascent is the right word. But then, have we ever stopped from bringing you all that is happening out there in the world of movies and television?
